Sharad Ritucharya

In sharad rutu, Pitta accumulated in varsha is easily elevated by the heat of sunrays into the body parts that feels cold due to rains and chilled atmosphere. In sharad rutu, Tikta (bitter) dravya (drugs) siddha(medicated) ghrut , Virechan(Classical laxation)and raktamokshan (blood letting) are advisable that pacifies the increased pitta in the body.

When hungry, one should consume tikta (bitter), madhur (sweet), kashay(astringent) rasa diet in less quantity . Shalichawal (best type of rice), mung (Phaseolus mungo Linn.), sharkara (sugar), aamalki (Emblica officinalis Gaertn), Patol (Trichosanthes Roxb dioica), madhu (honey) and jangal pradeshiya mans should be consumed.

Hansodak

Hans means swan and udak means water.

Aacharya chakrapani postulates two interpretations of the term ‘Hansodak’-

  • Hans can be related to both surya (sun) and Chandra (moon).so, the water that is purified by both surya and Chandra is known as ‘Hansodak’.
  • Water that is suitable for the consumption of hans (swan)is called ‘Hansodak’.As hans consumes only pure water.

Jal (water) that is heated with sunlight at daytime and cooled down with the moonlight, that is detoxified by agasta nakshatra such pure, detoxified, soothing jal is known as Hansodak. This jal is anabhishyandi (clears the gut) and aruksha (not dry). It is equally beneficial as amrut (nectar).

One should enjoy view of moonlight and bright stars from the roof after wearing pearl necklace, smearing Chandan, ushir and karpur, putting on clean clothes.

Apathya (Dont’s)

One should avoid consuming fog, kshar (alkalies), dadhi (yogurt), tail(oil),vasa (fats), aatap (sunlight), tikshna madya (strong alcohol), diwaswap , wind coming from purva (east) disha (direction).

Sankshipt Ritucharya (Brief of ritucharya)

In sheet kaal (cold period i.e. Hemant, shishir) and in Varsha rutu, initial 3 rasa should be practised. i.e. Madhur-amla-lavan and in Vasant last 3 rasa should be practised. i.e. Katu-tikta-kashay.

  • Practice Madhur rasa in Grishma rutu
  • Practice Madhur- tikta -kashay in Sharad rutu.
  • In sharad and vasant rutu, consume ruksha (dry) dravyas.
  • In grishma , consume sheet dravyas.
  • In Hemant,Shishir and Varsha practice snigdha and ushna (hot) annapaan (food and drinks).

Full stomach food, dadhi, kshar,aatap, vasa, tail, air from north, tikshna Madya, diwaswap, fog.
Nitya Sarva rasabhyas (Consistent use of all Rasa)

In all the Rutus, one should practice all the Shadrasa. (Six tastes) But the rasa that are mentioned in particular rutu should be specifically consumed.

Rutusandhi-

Sandhi means joint. (Here, collaboration/ Meeting)

The last week of ongoing rutu and first week of upcoming rutu (i.e. 14 days) this time period together is known as Rutusandhi.

In this period, One need to subsequently drop down the charya explained for ending rutu and slowly adapt the charya explained for upcoming rutu.
