(Daily regimen)

Din means day and charya means Aacharan(etiquette). So, the conduct or practices one should follow/adapt in daily routine is known as dinacharya. Aacharya says that,

आचाराल्लभते आयु: ।

Appropriate conduct leads one to long life. The term Aachar intends upon conduct related to both aaharaj (dietic) and viharaj (Physical activities) factor.

One should follow the series of practices in the following order –

1 Bramhe muhurte uttishtet(Waking up early) Get up prior to sunrise (4-6 am) Life is protected
1 Excretion As per digestion of food consumed excretion of faeces and urine should be done. Eliminates foul smelling and cleanses the body.
3 Dantadhavan and Jivhanirlekhan Trees having sticks of Bitter, spicy, astringent taste,12 fingers long, of little finger width must be used for brushing teeth. Eliminates diseases of oral cavity, teeth, tongue, foul smell of mouth. It gives taste to food, cleanses oral cavity.
4 Anjan Daily use of sauveeranjan and weekly use of rasanjan is beneficial Eyes seems beautiful, clear. Eyes can observe minute things without strain.
5 Nasya Anutail nasya is beneficial Skin, cervical region, shoulders, face and chest becomes strong and elevated. voice softens and senses are activated.
6 Gandush Gandush with oil or warm water is beneficial. Gandush with oil pacifies dryness of lips, mouth, teeth diseases, hoarseness of voice.
7 Kaval Kaval of decoction of khadir, kshirivruksha are beneficial Eliminates ageusia, impurity, foul smell and excessive salivation.
8 Dhumpaan Prayogic dhumpaan is advised Eliminates supraclavicular diseases.
9 Tambulsevan 2 nagvel leaves, betelnut, khadir churna, lavang with Kasturi (musk)should be eaten. Improves taste receptors, cleanses mouth,
10 Abhyang Vata pacifying pleasant fragrant oil must be used to massage. It should be done over head, temporal region, bilateral sole. Pacifies vata,strengthens body, induces sleep. Massage over sole strengthens legs, improves sleep and eyesight.
11 Vyayam In cold and vasant rutu, one should exercise half the capacity of body. In Varsha and sharad rutu minimum exercise is advised. Body seems light, active and stimulates hunger.
12 Udwartan Bitter and astringent drugs must be used for udwartan. Pacifies kapha, burns fatty tissues, increases stability of body and improves skin texture.
13 Snan Hot water is advised for lower body cleaning and room temperature water for upper body cleaning. Improves digestive fire, aphrodisiac, life strengthening. Eliminates Itching,fatigue,sweat,thirst.
14 Bhojan Greeting food delightfully after washing hands and legs one should start eating peacefully. Satva is enlightened that leads to strong and sound buddhi.
15 Sadvrutta Adapting good and eliminating bad as per principles illustrated, one should obey sadvrutta.(good conduct) Increases healthy lifespan of 100 years, renders success and leads to moksha.
16 Kaalsmruti vichar How I spent my whole day, how I behaved should be analysed at the eve. Person never gets upset.
