The branch of Ayurveda that deals with utilisation of Yantra (equipments), Shastra (instruments), Ksharkarma (application of alkali), Agnikarma (cauterisation) for the removal of physical ailments such as bone, hair, nails, secretions, Mudhagarbha (obstructed labour) and foreign bodies such as grass, wooden stick, stone, dust, dhatu(metal), sand stuck into the body and also determines different types of wounds is known as Shalyatantra.
